Gaddelu: A Unique Historical Legacy

Another unique and historical aspect of Dharmapuri Kshetram is its 'Gramarakshaka' (Village Protector) system. Centuries ago, to protect the village from repeated invasions, the people built small shrines throughout the village. Locally, these are called 'Gaddelu'.

A 'Gadde' is situated at the beginning of every street near to the Narasimha Swamy Temple. These shrines contain the Shiva Panchayatanam, which includes idols of Shiva Lingam, Nandi, Parvati, Ganapati, and Anjaneyaswami. According to century-old customs and traditions, the families living in those respective streets are responsible for daily worship and offerings at these shrines.
