Deities of Dharmapuri Kshetram
Dharmapuri Kshetram houses a remarkable array of deities spanning both Shaiva and Vaishnava traditions. The temple complex contains the following sacred shrines:
Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy
The presiding deity of the Kshetram. Lord Narasimha is seen in his Soumya (peaceful) form, seated with Goddess Lakshmi on his lap. This is the main sanctum that draws pilgrims from across the country. Dharmapuri is one of the nine Narasimha Kshetras in India.
Sri Ugra Narasimha Swamy
A rare and powerful manifestation of Lord Narasimha in his fierce (Ugra) form. The deity is depicted in the act of slaying the demon Hiranyakashipu to protect his devotee Prahlada. Having both Soumya and Ugra forms in a single Kshetram is extremely rare.
Sri Ramalingeshwara Swamy
The sacred Saikatha Lingam, believed to have been installed by Lord Rama himself during his exile. Sri Ramalingeshwara (Lord Shiva) is the primary Shaiva deity of the complex, symbolising the Shaiva–Vaishnava unity of Dharmapuri.
Sri Venkateshwara Swamy
A shrine dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara (Balaji), one of the most widely worshipped forms of Lord Vishnu. Devotees offer prayers here for prosperity and well-being.
Sri Anjaneya Swamy
A shrine dedicated to Lord Hanuman, the devoted servant of Lord Rama. Devotees worship Anjaneya for strength, courage, and devotion.
Sri Rama
A separate shrine for Lord Rama, who according to tradition visited Dharmapuri during his exile and installed the Saikatha Lingam on the banks of the Godavari.
Sri Dattatreya
A shrine for Lord Dattatreya, the combined incarnation of the Trimurthi (Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheshwara). Dattatreya worship has a strong tradition in the Deccan region.
Sri Ganapathi
The beloved elephant-headed deity, Lord Ganesha, worshipped as the remover of obstacles. Devotees pray to Ganapathi before beginning any auspicious undertaking.
Sri Kubera
A shrine for Kubera, the lord of wealth and the divine treasurer. Devotees offer prayers for financial prosperity and abundance.
Sri Yamadharmaraja
A rare shrine dedicated to Yamadharmaraja, the lord of death and justice. Prayers here are offered for righteous living and liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
Sri Sathyavathi Devi
A shrine for Goddess Sathyavathi, adding to the rich tapestry of deities at the Kshetram.
Sri Gouthameshwara
A Shiva shrine associated with the sage Goutama. This ancient shrine adds to the Puranic significance of Dharmapuri.
Brahma Pushkarini
The sacred temple tank, Brahma Pushkarini, is integral to the spiritual experience at Dharmapuri. A holy dip in the Pushkarini, especially during Pushkaram and other auspicious occasions, is considered highly meritorious.
